The goal of this gathering is to introduce our new students to local/regional safety folks, and for our students to hear stories and begin to develop working relationships.

The new Board takes office July 1, 2008 and will be responsible for managing the Chapter affairs for the upcoming year. Please extend your congratulations to all!
Special thanks goes out to all members who participated in the election process, outgoing Board members and especially to Past President, David Abrams who presented us with a top notch group of candidates and an efficient and timely election.
Chapter President Tim Flint was please to present Garry Kroft with the Chapter SPY Award for 2008 at the April Chapter Meeting. Garry has contributed greatly to the Chapter and the Safety Profession and is well deserving of this recognition. The Chapter award recipient is then eligible for Region and National recognition and Garry will be recommended for these as well. Congratulations Slick!
Bob Vandenberg was awarded the 40 year service award at the April Chapter Meeting. Bob’s accomplishments go back to the very beginning of the Northwest Chapter and are some of the reasons for the success of our organization. Bob shared his experiences as a Safety Director for General Mills and challenged all of those in attendance to keep on giving to the profession. Congratulations Bob!
Our May meeting was designated as our Annual Technical Tour and this year we went to the Northwest Airlines Maintenance Facility at Minneapolis - St. Paul Airport. Our hosts and tour guides for the day were John McMurtry and Troy Schon. The photos were taken in front of an Airbus A320. The event generated $265 that will be donated to the student travel funds for the Northwest Chapter Student Sections at UMD and UW - Stout.
The Board of the ASSE NW Chapter has updated the Strategic Plan for the Chapter and it is now available for Member review. Under the guidance of Chapter President Tim Flint, the Plan was updated at a special meeting of the Chapter Board of Directors on February 21, 2008. The Plan was completed prior to budgeting and so that both the updated Plan and the Chapter Budget are ready for the newly elected Board members who take office this summer. In addition to providing the framework for the Chapter budget, the Plan is also used to provide a roadmap for Chapter activities and identify areas where we plan to better support Chapter Members.
The graduate students in the Masters Program at the University of Wisconsin, Stout are looking for internship opportunities for the summer of 2008. If you are interested in employing a graduate student in Safety/Risk Control, please contact Dr. Elbert Sorrell, Internship Coordinator at the following email address sorrelle@uwstout.edu or give Dr. Sorrell a call at 715-232-2630.
