"Treating Your Own Back Injuries"
Join us for the first Northwest Chapter meeting of the 2008-09 season and participate in this exciting presentation! We have a very special presenter coming to us from Orlando, Florida to talk about managing back injuries. Peter Guske, PT, in the myth-shattering and highly non-traditional manner that has become his trademark, will discuss and demonstrate how people can put their own back "back in" after having their back "go out". Over the past four years Mr. Guske has instructed over 14,000 workers nationwide and continues to impress results-oriented safety professionals and companies with this information that will help reduce the common problem of back injuries. Mr. Guske is a licensed physical therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience treating back injuries. Mr. Guske opened his own rehabilitation clinic in 1988 and has gone on to build "The Back Saver System", a national company which provides employers with cost-effective, on-site back prevention programs. Safety Council for the September meeting of the HSE Training Special Interest
Group. The location is 474 Concordia Avenue in St. Paul. Take the Dale street

"Six Tricks to Understanding the Business Owner"
Speaker: Maureen Steinwall, President, Steinwall, Inc., Coon Rapids, MN Over the past few years, Ms. Steinwall has been a speaker and panelist at ASSE National events. She has been featured in ASSE Practice Specialties articles. In October, Ms. Steinwall will be one of the keynote speakers at the ASSE Loss Control Symposium in Chicago. If you cannot make it to the Loss Control Symposium in October, plan to attend our November meeting! Maureen Steinwall will be making a special follow-up presentation at the November Northwest Chapter meeting. Her message is very compelling and will benefit all safety professionals. Following is a general description of her topic: The goal of Management in any organization is to make decisions that maximize productivity and maximize return to the stakeholders. They do this with limited resources and through controlling direction, speed, and balance of the organization. The big difference between an owner and hired management is the wallet; decision-making becomes personal for the owner! This presentation will describe six concepts that will help the safety professional connect with business managers and owners. The task of allocating limited resources cannot be underestimated. Teaming with, and advising the business manager is a delicate dance for the safety professional and one you will want to master!
